The US will try to persuade China not to supply arms to Russia in a high-level government meeting in Rome.
US officials say there'll be serious consequences if China helps Russia evade sanctions in the Ukraine invasion.
Former Director General of the Royal United Services Institute Professor Michael Clarke says he does not believe China is currently supplying weapons but it is “entirely plausible”.
He said it would be likely the Russians would ask for precision weapons, as they are short on those.
“Also they’re quite short on drones, the Russians have put a lot of effort into aircraft, they’ve got a very good suite of modern, very effective aircraft but not so many drones,” he told Sky News Australia.
