Influential Muslim religious leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi dies

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, one of the Sunni Muslim world’s most influential religious scholars, has died. has died at the age of 96.
The Qatar-based cleric was the founding President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS).

Born in 1926 in Saft Turab village in the Arab Republic of Egypt's Al Gharbia Governorate, Al Qaradawi read and memorized the entire Quran by the time he was 10.

He was sentenced to death in abestentia in his native Egypt, in 2015.

A military court there accused him and several others of involvement in the prison break, of former President Mohammed Morsi.

al-Qaradawi had written 170 books and publications on Islamic jurisprudence.
