Teacher at India's Manipal University suspended over Islamophobic joke targeting Muslim student

“Being a Muslim in this country and facing all this every day is not funny.”

A teacher in India’s Karnataka was suspended after a viral video showed the rebuttal of a Muslim student who the teacher had likened to one of the terrorists behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The Manipal University student later said in a WhatsApp message that circulated around the university that he had a private conversation with the teacher following the incident during which the teacher had offered his apologies.
